Correspondence, 1843-1851.

Three handwritten and signed letters with typescripts of two of them. One item was written by Edward Everett (1794-1865), minister to Great Britain for the United States (1841-1845), on Nov. 23, 1843 in London and was addressed to Ashbel. Everett reports on the negotiations with Great Britain about a loan to the Republic of Texas for the purpose of ending slavery there. Another item was written by Ashbel on June 16, 1843 in London and addressed to William Daingerfield. Ashbel is pleased that Daingerfield has arrived in Paris and urges him to come to London immediately. The remaining item was written by Ashbel on July 15, 1851 in London. It discusses the various kinds of cotton in the world and the problems of introducing various strains of cotton to new areas.
